S-Health no longer counts steps on my Samsung Galaxy Smartphone

If you own a Samsung Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4 or Galaxy Note 3, then you have the app S-Health automatically installed, which allows you to monitor and train your fitness. A function that is integrated into S-Health on the Samsung Galaxy smartphones, is the so-called pedometer. This pedometer uses a sensor of the smartphone, which detects vibrations. Based on the sequence of shocks the app recognise a walk and then declared these as steps. The pedometer is thus one of the most important and interessting features that are available in S-Health.

Now it may be that S-Health on your Samsung Galaxy smartphone does not count steps anymore. If so, we would like to show you a way how to get the pedometer working again.

For this you have to navigate to the system Settings of Android and open here the application manager. Change within the manager on the tab "All", then search for the app S-Health. When you found it tap on it to show the app information.

Next, tap on the button "Force Stop" and then "Uninstall Updates". This will reset the app S-Health to factory condition, but without deleting data that is saved in the app. (It is always worth to do a backup of your data). After the updates of S-Health are uninstalled, open S-Health as usual. The new update is now reloaded, and then S-Health should again count  the steps that you went with your Samsung Galaxy Smartphone.

Worked for me on my Galaxy S5 after the AT&T update.

I used these steps about 2 weeks ago and it corrected the problem, but it has since stopped again and these steps now do not work to correct it. Seems to me that it might fall under apps that they no longer care if "older" phones like a Samsung Galaxy S5 work with. A phone manufacturer is counting on us getting annoyed with things not working and buying a replacement. They aren't likely focusing on phones older than the 2 newest generations. That being said... if anyone comes up with another fix for it please share because I'm stubborn and I really only NEED a phone for emergencies, so I'm going to get my money's worth out of this one.

My S5 does not give an option when I force stop it to uninstall updates. No downloaded app will count steps.

S health is missing steps from my walks. The app has always worked perfectly, but in the Las few weeks it's missing half my daily steps.

Mine was counting but no loger counting every step.
I did exactly what was shown above and it wiped out my entire history. Not even sure if it is working correctly now after losing everything after you said it would not happen.
My fault for believing this without digging deeper.

I have done this and the app is still not working. Samsung has gone from a number 10 to a number 2 in my eyes

I followed the directions to the letter. S Health still does not track my steps. I do not know of an additional app that I have that may be conflicting with the step counter feature, or disabling that feature. Perhaps there is a physically damaged internal element on my phone.

My app is counting steps FOR TOMORROW. I don't even get this, it's saying I have taken a thousand or so steps... tomorrow. WTH what is going on and how do I fix it?

I had an issue that after a few days noticed that steps, runs etc were not updating. S-health main page double arrows in upper right corner were rotating constantly but no new data was syncing. My gear fit was showing steps history, but nothing on device. I did clear cache, deleted data, etc with no success. What turned out to be the case was that although my blue tooth connection was on, a "power management" app (Clean Master) was disconnecting the connected devices after the Gear fit manager was no longer running in foreground (I think Clean Master calls this "app hybernation"). Once I restarted the gear fit manager, and reconnected blue tooth, I had to do manually "Transfer now" (data) in GearFit manager "apps and settings" under S-health. THEN, I got all my missing data for the last few days back into the app! Make sure your GearFit manager is always running and bluetooth connected to the watch... ;-)

I still cannot get S Health to work. Yesterday June 2, 2016 I received a Lollipop update for for my Note 3. After that the S Health pedometer stopped working. I followed instructions given above and made sure I followed prompts to restore my data but my data is gone and the steps are still not being counted. I would guess the people on this comment board that had success followed these instructions before their Lollipop update. Any suggestions?

This helped, I just had to input all my information again. Yes, it was a pain but it's counting my steps again.

Thank you. Simple, easy to do and hopefully will solve the problem.

This doesn't work! I've tried this several times but just like pausing, clearing the cache, rebooting, and unpausing, it may work for an hour or so, but usually only a few minutes or typically only a couple dozen steps...

done this several times, only works for an hour or so then stops counting steps....
