Samsung Galaxy S9 Use GPS only for location search – Solved

You can use the Samsung Galaxy S9 to determine your location. It is possible to use the integrated GPS module, the mobile data connection or the W-Lan. The highest accuracy is achieved by leaving all three options activated.

Or you may just want to use the GPS module to determine your position. If so, then we would like to explain here exactly which settings you have to set within Android:

Use GPS only to determine your own location

  1. Start from your home screen and open app menu
  2. Go to the settings icon
  3. Select the following submenu: Connections --> Location --> Search method
  4. In this submenu you can now select "Phone only". Ready!

With this setting only the GPS receiver module of the Samsung Galaxy S9 is used from now on. This means that the location can sometimes take a little longer, but you are not dependent on the mobile data connection or a W-Lan network.

Tip: Use the GPS Test app to see how many satellites you are currently connected to

Samsung Galaxy S9 How to import contacts from Sim card

Switch from an older smartphone, which is not yet connected to a cloud service such as Google, then it may be an adequate solution to import the contacts stored on the Sim card to the new Samsung Galaxy S9.

To do this, you must first transfer the contacts on your old smartphone to the memory of the Sim card.

Please keep in mind that there is not much space on the contact memory of the Sim card. Usually this is just the name and a phone number. And so the contact memory of the Sim card can be imported to the Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9 Plus:

Import Sim contacts with the contacts app

  1. Open the contacts app
  2. On the Samsung Galaxy S9. Tap on the three-point icon in the upper right corner and in the pop-up menu on "Manage contacts"
  3. Continue with "Import/Export contacts"
  4. Press "Import" in the next menu
  5. Select "From Sim Map" and then "All" from 6, then select the destination. There is a choice:
  • Phone
  • Google
  • Samsung account

Finally, please select "Import". Now the import process to the Samsung Galaxy S9 is performed. This usually takes only a few seconds, as the memory is relatively small. The contacts are then in the location you selected.

You now know how to easily import Sim cards contacts to the new Samsung Galaxy S9.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Show holidays in calendar app and widget

If you are using the pre-installed calendar app of your Samsung Galaxy S9, you may be missing information about the upcoming holidays in your home country. The function is not active at the factory, but can be easily added as follows, so that holidays are displayed directly in your calendar.

This is how it works:

You can see holidays in the calendar of the Samsung Galaxy S9 if you use a Google account and have linked it to the Samsung Galaxy S9. This should apply to almost all Android users in general.

The next step is as follows:

  1. To do this, please start from the home screen and then open the App menu.
  2. Search for "Calendar". Select the app and you will see the usual calendar view, usually a whole month.
  3. Now select the icon with the three items in the upper right-hand corner - A menu opens
  4. Tap the entry "Manage calendar" here
  5. Scroll down to the Google Calendar elements - Here you will find "Holidays in your country" (depending on the country you live in, the holidays in your home country are suggested to you) Activate the option using the slider. Ready!

Samsung Galaxy S9 Back Button Change Position – Tip

The Samsung Galaxy S9 may have a variety of features and design elements arranged differently the first time it is launched, as may have been the case with your previous smartphone.

However, with the Samsung Experience 9 interface, formerly known as TouchWiz, you have many customization options. For example, the Back button on your Samsung Galaxy S9 may be positioned in the wrong place on the bottom bar. Usually you are used to the back button located at the bottom right of the home button.

If this is not the case with your Samsung Galaxy S9, you can change the position of the back button as follows:

Rearrange the Back button on the Samsung Galaxy S9

  1. Start from the start screen and open the App menu and then the settings
  2. Open the menu item "Display" and then the submenu "Navigation bar"
  3. At the bottom you see the option "Button layout" - select it from
  4. You can now change the button layout in:

Active Application - Home Button - Back Button

Now you have successfully repositioned the Back button to the right of the Home button.

This should now make it easier for you when you are inside menus, websites and applications. Navigation via the buttons is now also available on the Samsung Galaxy S9 as usual.

Samsung Galaxy S9 waterproof and dustproof?

An important feature of smartphones today is whether the device is waterproof and protected against contamination by dust etc. The Samsung Galaxy S9 or the S9 Plus may also meet this challenge. We have the correct answer to the question for you here.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 is IP68 certified

Yes, the Samsung Galaxy S9 is waterproof and meets the IP68 standard.

So what exactly does that mean? This means that the Samsung Galaxy S9 is protected against dust and fresh water up to a depth of 1.5 meters and a maximum residence time of up to 60 minutes.

So you are well prepared if your smartphone should fall into the water. Also the use outside in rain is of course no problem.

However, you should not dive or take underwater photos with the Samsung Galaxy S9. Use in salt water or in the pool should also be avoided.

Especially if you jump into the water with your smartphone, for example, the water pressure can already become too high and liquid can penetrate into the housing.

If this happens, it is usually electrical damage and that would be a pity.   We wish you a lot of fun with your smartphone.
