Nexus 5 How to Wipe cache partition - Instructions

If you have the new Android Lollipop 5.0 installed on your Nexus 5 , then it is advisable to perform a so-called Wipe cache partition. This clears background data and app cache, but personal data is not deleted. In most cases, the Wipe cache partition on the Nexus 5 is needed, after the new Android Lollipop 5.0 has been installed.

We tell you now, how to perform a Wipe cache partition on the Nexus 5.

Switch off the Nexus 5 smartphone completely. Turn it on again and if you can see the Google logo press and hold the volume Volume Down button until the phone vibrates. A small menu will appear. Navigate with the volume buttons on the Nexus 5 at "Recovery Menu" and then press once the power button to confirm.

A Android man lying on the the back appears at the screen. Keep the volume up button pressed for about 6 seconds until a new menu appears. Select within this menu now "Wipe Cache Partition". Confirm it with the power button, so that the wipe is performed. After clearing the cache the Nexus 5 can be restarted. Done!

You have now successfully performed a wipe cache partition after updating to Android Lollipop 5.0 on the Nexus 5.

I tried to do this and failed as the instructions are actually slightly wrong, these are more thorough and it finally worked!

If your device is switched on, power it off.
Press & hold the Volume Down and then press & hold the Power button simultaneously until the phone turns on. You'll see the word "Start" with an arrow drawn around it.
Press the Volume Down button twice to highlight Recovery mode.
Press the Power button to start Recovery mode. You'll see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark
While holding the Power button, tap and release the Volume Up button - a menu should appear. (Do not hold the Volume Up button down as this will reboot the device).
Use the volume buttons to scroll to "wipe cache partition" and press the Power button to select it.

Note: This process can take from 1 second to 10+ minutes to complete and might look like its “boot-looping” -- don't touch it.
