I receive Unknown Calls from private numbers on my Android phone – What to do?

It can happen to you that you receive calls to your Android smartphone, for which the number is suppressed. Usually the smartphone is ringing for a while. If one tries to answer the call, immediately after take-off the opposite side is hanging up. This is of course strange and little unsettling. For incoming calls with hidden numbers, it appears only the message “private number” on the display.
Usually you don’t have to worry about these calls. Because when you get calls that are immediately disconnected after take-off, this usually has the following cause:

• Error in the mobile network by the operator. Your phone rings, although no one attempts to call you.
• A fax machine is trying to send a fax to your phone number, for example because the number was entered incorrectly. Because a fax automatically redials, it may happen that you receive those unknown calls on a regular basis.
• You are in an area with very poor network coverage (rarely)

Now it may be, however, that these calls do not stop and you feel disturbed. This is quite understandable. Therefore, we now show you which options you have to block calls suppressed with private or unknown number or to find out who the caller is.

The easiest way to block such calls by yourself is to set all calls from a withheld number on the blacklist of your Android smartphone. For that open from the home screen the menu and then the settings. Scroll down to "Call" and select "call rejection".

Tap at first "Auto Reject Mode" and check in the new window, if "Auto reject numbers" is activated. If it is not marked yet, activate it now.

As next step go to "Auto Reject List", which now gives you the opportunity to put numbers on the so-called blocking list for calls. You already find here an entry with "Unknown". Set the flag in the checkbox behind it in order to automatically reject incoming calls on yourSamsungGalaxyS5received by unknown callers. That's it.

You will now not get anymore calls from unknown callers on your Android smartphone. It is also possible via your carrier install a "Malicious Call Identification". However, this issue is very expensive because it costs several hundred dollars.

That is why we recommend you to use the blacklist for "unknown numbers". We hope that you will from now on no more strange calls which hang up immediately after answering the call.
