Samsung Galaxy S6 Hide picture folder in Gallery

Sometimes it may be necessary that images stored on the Samsung Galaxy S6 do not appear in the gallery. This is the only way to ensure that people who view your pictures on your phone, cannot see certain pictures. Hiding picture folders is unfortunately not possible with the Gallery app on android. That's why you need to help yourself. There are two options:

1. Create a .nomedia file on the Samsung Galaxy S6

When you save a so-called "nomedia" file in the image folder of your Samsung Galaxy S6, then this folder does not appear in the Gallery app. To create a .nomedia file, you must download the following file Explorer from the Google Play Store: "ES File Explorer"

The File Explorer is free, and offers many possibilities, including creating new files.

Have you downloaded the ES File Explorer, then open it. Navigate to the path where your images are stored in a folder. In this folder, you must now create a new file with the following name: .nomedia

For that tap on the bottom left on "New" and then select “file”. As filename enter now ".nomedia" and then click "OK" to create the file.

Do not forget the dot before the "nomedia"! Now restart your Samsung Galaxy S6. If you now open the gallery, that folder and all images in it will no longer appear in the gallery app.

2. Uses the app gallery “QuickPic”

The photo gallery QuickPic has implemented the function to create nomedia files. This is a bit more comfortable than the manual version above. Here we tell you how you to hide image-folders with QuickPic. After you have installed Quick Pic from the Google Play Store on your Samsung Galaxy S6, open the app and navigate to the folder which you would like to hide.
Tap in the top right corner on "More" and then select from the menu "Hide". This will automatically create a .nomedia file in that folder and hide it. Finished!

3. Show folder of images hidden by a nomedia file again

Folders that were hidden by a nomedia file can be shown again as follows:

Open the ES File Explorer on your Samsung Galaxy S6. Subtracting from the left side the menu in the middle of the display. Scrolls in this menu all the way down and then set the bar "Show Hidden Files" to "ON". Finished! You now see the created nomedia files and can delete them easily. Your pictures will be shown again on the Samsung Galaxy S6 within the gallery app.
