If you purchased the new Samsung Galaxy S6, then you want to transfer your saved WhatsApp messages from your "old" Android smartphone, so they are not lost. Unfortunately, there is currently within the app itself no automatic backup and restore solution for WhatsApp messages.
Therefore, we now want to show with our manual how to transfer the WhatsApp database from an old Android smartphone to the new Samsung Galaxy S6 and then restore the messages in WhatsApp.
Proceed as follows.
Save the complete WhatsApp folder from your old Android smartphone to your computer. To do this, connect your phone via a USB cable to the PC. If this was recognized as a mass storage device, navigate in Windows to:
Computer --> Portable Device --> Phone
Here you will now find the folder "WhatsApp". Copy the complete folder and save it to your desktop (right click --> Copy --> Paste). You have now successfully made a backup of your old WhatsApp database on your PC.
Now you can import this backup and all your messages on your Samsung Galaxy S6 again. First you must uninstall WhatsApp from the Samsung Galaxy S6 if you have already installed it from the Google Play Store. If you have completed this step, connect the Samsung Galaxy S6 now via USB cable to the PC and move the previously made WhatsApp database backup to the folder "Phone" in the root device of the Samsung Galaxy S6.
The WhatsApp folder is now at the same directory address as it was your previous smartphone.
When you have finished this step, install WhatsApp again on the Samsung Galaxy S6 by downloading it from the Google Play Store.
Then open "WhatsApp" on your Samsung Galaxy S6 and follow the instructions on the display. A screen appears where you can select “Restore” .
Tap “Restore” and this will import all WhatsApp messages from the backup to your Samsung Galaxy S6. You will then be able to see all your messages from WhatsApp again. The restoration of WhatsApp messages worked! Congratulations!
