It can happen to you with your Samsung Galaxy S6 that this is not recognized by your PC or by the software "Smart Switch". If that's the case, then you cannot create with SmartSwitch backups or also restore any backups on your PC.
We tell you now a simple trick which helps, to connect your Samsung Galaxy S6 with the computer and Smart Switch. Proceed as follows:
This trick requires that the USB debugging on the Samsung Galaxy S6 is activated. This option can be found in the developer options.
As the developer options in Android are not visible from the beginning and have to be activated, we want to show you first how this works on the Samsung Galaxy S6:
With the developer options you can change various options to improve the performance of the Samsung Galaxy S6. To activate the option you must open on the Samsung Galaxy S6 the following submenu:
From the home screen tap on Menu --> Settings --> Device Information
You can see the entry "Build Number". Now tap several times in quick succession on this entry in order to enable the developer mode.
After about seven times tapping on the entry "build number" at the bottom of the screen an information box with "developer mode enabled"appears. You can now see the developer options at "Menu --> Settings". Open them and then you see the "USB debugging" option. Slide the controller to enable this feature on your Samsung Galaxy S6.
This mode starts automatically once if your smartphone is connected to the computer via USB cable and is responsible for ensuring that the Samsung Galaxy S6 is recognized as a media device.
If you now connect the Samsung Galaxy S6 with your computer and SmartSwitch, then the software should detect your smartphone correctly and a backup of the data can be created or restored.
