If you use the WhatsApp messenger on your Android smartphone or iPhone, then you may have wondered what exactly the icons that you see in a chat with a contact are.

We would like to explain to you here what meaning these little symbols have. WhatsApp icons and their meaning within the chat:

A gray check mark means that your message has been sent and has arrived at WhatsApp's servers.

Two gray check marks mean that your message has been successfully transmitted to the contact but has not yet been read

The two blue ones mean that the recipient has read the message

A clock icon indicates that the message has not yet left your smartphone. Most of the time there is no active internet connection
