QR Codes can nowadays be found at every corner. Be it on the fish fingers, an invitation, a poster or in another place. QR codes allow you to quickly display a specific information or web page on your smartphone.

However, a so-called QR code scanner is required for this. One of these is installed on the Samsung Galaxy S9 ex works, but somewhat hidden.

We show you here where you can activate the QR Code Scanner on the Samsung Galaxy S9:

Activate the QR Code Extension in your Internet Browser (Only possible in older Samsung Internet browser versions - Bixby Vision has replaced this method)

Please open the Internet Browser on your Samsung Galaxy S9. Select "Extensions" and then activate the controller for "QR Code Reader"

2. To do so, scan QR Codes again tap on the symbol with the three dots in the upper right corner. A new menu item is now "QR Code scan". Select it and confirm that Samsung may use your camera.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and the S9 Plus have an excellent display, which is extremely high resolution. However, the factory setting is only set to "FHD+". This means that your display only works at half the power and the resolution can be set higher.

You can change the screen resolution in the following submenu of Android:

• Home screen --> Settings --> Display --> Screen resolution

To select the best resolution, move the slider to the "WQHD+" mark.

Here you have the highest resolution your Samsung Galaxy S9 can offer. But it also needs more battery power. You now know the procedure to change the screen resolution of the Samsung Galaxy S9.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 offers in Android the possibility to display the home screen and the app menu in landscape format. Up to now this was not possible, but only in portrait format. However, this function is not activated at the factory.

We would now like to show you where you can find the right position for it:

1. Start as usual from the Home screen and opens the App menu and then the Android system settings

2. In this submenu you will now see an option that reads as follows:

• Portrait mode only

This option is active by default on the Samsung Galaxy S9. Disable this option to display the home screen in landscape format.

Afterwards you can hold the Samsung Galaxy S9 crosswise. The position sensor will detect this and display the home screen or app menu from your phone in landscape mode.

How often one needs this function in everyday life is questionable. If you do not want to use this option, then you simply have to activate the above function again ;-)

The Samsung Galaxy S9 automatically connects to a partner network when you are abroad. This is called roaming and allows you to be mobile abroad. However, you should deliberately enable or disable the data roaming settings on your Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphone.

In Europe, roaming is possible at the same price as in your home country. Things are different outside Europe. In America or Asia, prices for data roaming are called up, which can cost you a lot of money if you are not careful.

2. Navigate to: Settings --> Connections

Many users of a Samsung Galaxy S9 rely exclusively on the Google Play Store to download third-party applications to their devices. However, there are alternative options such as the Amazon App Market or so-called APK files.

APK files are installation files and can be compared to.exe files on a Windows computer. For example, you can use an APK file to download the latest version of WhatsApp from the official home page or install camera apps etc. that are not available on Play Store.

Here we would like to warn you not to obtain APK files only from secure websites or those you trust. Because they are not checked for malware by Google Play Protect! If you are not sure how to install an APK file on the Samsung Galaxy S9, the steps below will help you:

1. On your Samsung Galaxy S9, open the APK file you want to install via the file explorer "My Documents"

2. A window will appear asking you to confirm that the app is being installed from an unknown source

3. Confirm the hint with "Ok"

4. The installation will start. This may take a few moments. Then you have run an APK installation file on the Samsung Galaxy S9 and installed the corresponding app. Remember that you installed a file that was not checked by Google Play Store.

Here it makes sense to use a virus scanner such as AVAST.

3. A further submenu opens in which you can now find at the bottom of the page "Delete browser data". Touch the entry and a window opens where you can select further options.

4. Select "Clear browsing history" to clear the history of the Chrome browser. Press the "Delete" button at the bottom right to confirm.

You now know how to delete the stored data in the browser history on the Samsung Galaxy S9 or the S9 Plus.

It is then no longer possible to trace on which websites you have surfed with the Samsung Galaxy S9.

When you own a Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9 Plus, you can't avoid using widgets. Widgets are available in all sizes from small to large and with different information content.

If you would like to place a new widget on the home screen of your Samsung Galaxy S9, we would like to explain you how to do this:

Add a new widget to the home screen

1. Press with your finger on any home screen page to select a free space

2. The start screen will collapse and a menu will appear

3. You must then tap the "Widget" button. A list is opened with several widgets.

4. When you have the desired widget, tap and hold the widget. You must now drag it over the screen to the area where you want to place it.

5. Finally, release your finger from the screen to place the widget on the home screen.

Removing a widget

This now works a little easier:

To delete a widget, go to the page of the widget you want to delete. Now tap and hold the widget. You will now see a small window on the screen. Now select "Remove from start screen" - done!

You now know how to add or remove a widget on the Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9 Plus to the start screen.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 or the Galaxy S9 Plus have both integrated a pedometer, as usual with such high class smartphones. In this way, the S-Health app allows the smartphone to record your steps and determine whether you have reached your daily step target.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 uses motion sensors. The pedometer may not be a relevant function for you and is interfering with the status bar of the device. If you now want to deactivate it, then our article should explain how you can easily switch off the pedometer under Android or in S Health:

Start from the start screen and open the app "Samsung Health".   In the app, tap the three item icon in the upper right corner to display the menu.   In this menu, tap "Settings „to display the corresponding menu.  

Scroll down a little bit in the Health settings until you see the "Advanced" section.   This section now contains the following option:

• Show pedometer in the Notification Panel

Deactivate this option and the step counter in the Samsung Galaxy S9 notification bar will disappear. 

You have now successfully removed the step counter from the status bar. This is no longer visible.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 has a large display that can display photos and other content in excellent resolution. Of course it makes sense to create a nice wallpaper or wallpaper.

1. To do this, first open the App menu and then the settings. Continue on to "Backgrounds and Themes".

2. At the top you will see "My wallpapers". Touch the far left image.

3. This will now show you the gallery. Here you will find all the photos you have saved on your smartphone.

4. Select an image and a prompt will appear asking what you want to use it for.

5. Depending on what you want to use the background image for, tap the appropriate button.

With your own ringtone, you stand out even more with your Samsung Galaxy S9, as it is usually not part of the standard ringtone selection. The easiest way to create your own ringtone is to use an MP3 file.

This means that you can easily use your favorite song or sound, which is available in MP3 format, as a ringing tone on your Samsung Galaxy S9. How this works in Android, we explain you here:

Add MP3 ringtone to the Samsung Galaxy S9

First, transfer the MP3 song or sound to your Samsung Galaxy S9. The easiest way to do this is to send the file via e-mail or USB cable. Then you can start with the setting as a ringing tone:

Open the App menu from your home screen and open the settings there. Here you will find the menu item "Tones & Vibration". Touch this menu item and the submenu will open.

In this menu you can now select the menu item "Ringtone". A list will now appear listing all the ringtones currently available on the Samsung Galaxy S9.

These are usually those already provided by Android, the mobile operator or Samsung. The list does not yet include your own MP3 songs (including the song played in preparation) on your smartphone.

To add a new MP3 ringtone, select the "Add from phone" button at the end of the list. A window will now open with "Close process with"- Select "Sound Selection" and the corresponding window will open.

You can now view all the songs and sounds stored in MP3 format on your Samsung Galaxy S9. Now select an MP3 song that you want to use as an active ring tone on the Samsung Galaxy S9.

If you have selected this option, it will now be played back, allowing you to check whether this MP3 file is suitable for ringtone use. If you are satisfied with the selection, you can accept the selected MP3 song by tapping the "Ok" button above.

You have now set an MP3 ringtone on your Samsung Galaxy S9. This means that you will hear exactly this song on an incoming call and hopefully you will be in a better mood; -
