Some mobile operators, such as T-Mobile or Verizon, offer Wi-Fi calling. The smartphone, in our case the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, uses the W-Lan network at home. For this to work, however, there must be two prerequisites: You have a mobile phone contract and Wi-Fi calling enabled in the Android settings.

We'll now explain how to activate 8 W-Lan calls on the Samsung Galaxy Note.

To do this, first start from the home screen and then navigate to:

App menu --> Settings --> Connections

Here you can see the entry "Mobile Networks". Select the entry and you will find the entry "WLAN Calls„ in the next submenu. Now only activate it by setting the knob from "Off" to "On". Ready!

You have now activated WiFi Calling on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and can therefore accept and make calls via the W-Lan network. Especially if you live in a Sudterrain apartment with bad reception, Wi-Fi calling is a dream.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has a built-in blue light filter to help you read the display, especially in the dark. A blue light filter, as the name suggests, filters out the blue light. Blue light makes the eyes harder in the darkness and leads to less tiredness.

Especially if you want to read a little bit more on your Samsung Galaxy Note 8 after turning off the light in bed, this blue light filter is ideal. However, you have to activate it in the Android settings first. The following article explains how this works:

To activate the blue light filter, please open the Android settings and select "Display". In the next submenu you will immediately see "Blue Filter". Select it to display additional options. Available for selection:

  • Switch on now - activate blue filter

Activate as planned - Here you can activate the blue filter individually, so that it is only active at night (user-defined or after sunrise and sunset)

Once you have made your settings, the blue light filter on Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will now be active. You can also activate or deactivate it via the status bar. Drag the status bar with two fingers from above into the screen and you're done.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 How to disable GPS Position in Photos - Tip

Android Smartphones
Year 2018

If you take a photo with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, image properties are stored in an EXIF file. This includes, for example, the resolution, shutter speed, ISO value, etc. The note may also store the GPS position at which the photo was taken in the file. Publish the image then on the Internet so third parties might perhaps find out where you live.

For this reason, we recommend that you deactivate the option "Geo tagging" or be careful when handling images.

This is how to disable saving the GPS position in a photo taken with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8:

  1. Open the Camera App
  2. Tap on the gear wheel to open the settings

Disable the Geo-Tagging slider - Done!

Now you know how to quickly and easily switch off geo-tagging on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. This means that GPS data is no longer transferred to the EXIF file.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Which Virus Scanner and is it necessary - Tip

Details
Manuel
Android Smartphones
Year 2018

If you set up your Samsung Galaxy Note 8 after you have bought it, you will probably ask yourself after a while whether you need additional anti-virus software, similar to a Windows PC, and if so, which one.

Here we would like to give you a short explanation about the topic "Virus scanner on Android smartphones" and whether it is worthwhile for you to install an additional anti-virus scanner like Avast, Kapersky, Malwarebytes etc. on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8:

Unlike a computer, an anti-virus scanner is more than a "malware scanner" on an Android system. This means that it searches your installed applications and checks if there are any noticeable patterns or known potential threats.

That's all it was. Additional functions such as a firewall, for example, are only possible with root privileges on an Android smartphone and very few of them have this, as otherwise the warranty of the device will be lost.

When does an additional anti-virus scanner on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 make sense?

This question can be answered as follows:

Downloading applications from secure sources

If you load your applications from secure sources such as the Google Play Store or Amazon Application Market, you don't need an additional anti-virus scanner. Why? Because Google or Amazon check all applications coming into the store. An anti-virus scanner usually works less well than the systems of Google or Amazon do, which means again the following:

If an application that has included malware floods the market on Google or Amazon, it will not detect an anti-virus scanner on your Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

If you run your Samsung Galaxy Note 8 in this secure area, you don't need an extra virus scanner. In addition, Google now also offers even better protection for your apps with "Google Protect".

Virus scanners such as "Avast Mobile" will also consume more of the battery power of your Note 8, leaving this battery power for you to uninstall for other tasks.

Downloading applications from insecure sources

It's different if you download an APK file from the net and install it on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. We recommend that you install an additional scanner such as AVG or Avast, because there is no additional check by Google or Amazon.

If you load APKs from unknown sources, such as a website, you should install an additional virus scanner.

Additional information:

Using the integrated virus scanner of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8: The virus scanner is located in the following submenu of the Android system:

Start screen --> Application menu --> Settings --> Device maintenance --> Device security

Here you will find a button with "Scan phone". When you touch it, you will be prompted to accept Intel Security's privacy policy.

This is the integrated virus scanner on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
