If you would like to switch to the new iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus and have an older iPhone, you should make sure that your current SIM card fits into the new Apple smartphone. Older smartphones usually still use a standard or micro sim card format, depending on which smartphone you are still using.
The iPhone 8, on the other hand, uses the smallest format currently available: the Nano Sim card.

There is the possibility to punch a Nano Sim card from a standard or micro sim card. Such Sim card punch is available for little money on Amazon. The punch has various stencils, among them also for the Nano format, with which one can punch out such a Sim card from the "old". The punch costs between 5$ and 10$.
- Request from mobile phone provider
The simplest, but also the most expensive method is to order a new Nano Sim card from your mobile phone provider. The dispatch takes about 3 working days and can usually be requested via an online service center or the customer hotline. The costs range from $15 to $25, depending on the mobile operator.
