The iPhone can easily record QR Codes via the camera app. If you suddenly can't use this function on your smartphone anymore, this is usually due to an incorrect setting for the camera app.

Activate QR Code capture on the iPhone
1. Open the settings of your iPhone.
2. Scroll down to "Camera" and select the entry.
3. Now activate the controller at QR Code.
Afterwards you can record a QR Code with your iPhone as usual.
Open the camera app and hold the camera on a QR Code. The information it contains will now be displayed on the screen.
