There are many different smartphones that run on Android systems and all of them have different e-mail programs installed ex works.

If you now want to save or back up e-mails on the memory card under Android, we have written the following instructions for the most common e-mail apps.

Saving e-mail on the MicroSD - How it works

Most of the smartphones that are in circulation with Android come from Samsung or Huawei. All other smartphones have at least the Google GMail app installed.

Samsung Email App

The Samsung e-mail app is installed on all Samsung smartphones ex works. Please check if you have the latest version installed and update if necessary. Then use the following steps to save e-mails as a file.

1.            Open the e-mail app on the Samsung Galaxy S20, S10 or S9.

2.            Open the e-mail you would like to save.

3.            Tap on the three dots symbol in the top right-hand corner.

4.            Select "Save as file" from the context menu.

5.            Assign a file name and select "Save".

6.            Open the file explorer "My Documents", which is pre-installed on the Samsung Galaxy S20, S10 or S9.

7.            Navigate to the following directory: Internal Storage/ Saved Email

8.            Long press on the file to highlight it.

9.            Select "Move" in the toolbar below.

10.          Now navigate to the location "SD card" and there to the folder where you want to save the file.

11.          Then select "Move here".

Huawei E-Mail App

For users of a Huawei Smartphone please proceed as follows:

Unfortunately, the Huawei E-Mail App does not provide you with an integrated function to save e-mails on the internal storage. But you can use the "Print" function to save an e-mail as a PDF file.

Please proceed as follows:

1.            Open the Huawei E-Mail App.

2.            Open the e-mail you would like to save.

3.            Select "More" and then "Print".

4.            At "Select printer" please set the marker at "Save as PDF".

5.            Finally, select the "Disk icon" or "Save".

6.            You can now select the folder where the e-mail is to be saved as a PDF.

Now you know how to use the Huawei App to back up an email to the internal memory or a NanoSD memory card.

If you are not using the Huawei or Samsung e-mail app, we have written the appropriate instructions for the GMail app here:

Google Email App

We would also like to explain for Google's GMail app how you can store an e-mail as a file on the internal memory or memory card.

Unfortunately, the GMail app has no function to save e-mails as a file. Here you have to use the workaround to create a PDF file. This works as follows:

1.            Open the GMail App.

2.            Navigate to the e-mail to be saved.

3.            Select the three-point symbol in the upper right corner.

4.            Go to "Print" in the context menu.

5.            Select "Save as PDF".

6.            Specify a storage location. Either the internal memory or the memory card.

7.            A PDF copy of the e-mail is then saved.

So you know how to save and back up an e-mail as a file using various e-mail apps. In fact, the Samsung e-mail app offers the best way to store an e-mail on the internal memory of the smartphone.
